In this chapter from Conrad Noel’s Autobiography, he tells of the reaction he and the Thaxted parish faced when they flew anti-imperialist flags. Some Cambridge students rioted in the church, tearing down the flags and hanging the Union Jack. Some of these even became open fascists and terrorized Thaxted for a time, at times resorting to beating people up and threatening to smash the windows of the church. I thought it worth posting given the right wing violence that has been going on in the UK recently.
